First Gen Toyota Vios

In the world of car tuning, some of the most surprising builds come from the most humble platforms. Case in point: ED’s supercharged first-gen Toyota Vios (XP40/NCP42). What started as a modest Southeast Asian sedan has been transformed into a head-turning, track-inspired machine, This is proof that budget cars can still pack serious punch with the right vision.
Inside, the rear of the car has been fully stripped and painted to match the body. ED installed a custom white strut bar and mounted a white fire extinguisher, both functional and visually striking. The seats are refurbished Bride Low Max buckets with Kevlar backs, and the centerpiece is a reworked steering wheel, personally signed by Kei Miura, the mastermind behind Rocket Bunny.
At its core, ED’s Vios retains the original 1.5L 1NZ-FE engine, a reliable power plant shared with the Toyota Platz and Echo. But to take things up a notch, he added a Jimze supercharger sourced from a Vitz RS. The result is a unique forced induction setup that gives the Vios some much-needed grunt while keeping the spirit of OEM+ performance alive.
The exterior is unmistakable. Painted in a unique khaki green, the Vios grabs attention without being loud. A custom front lip, hood pins, and JTCC-style side mirrors nod to classic touring car influences, while 15-inch WedsSport TC05 wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan AD09 tires complete the aggressive stance and track-ready look.
ED’s Vios has turned heads at automotive shows in Malaysia and even earned a spot on Speedhunters—back when the site was still actively covering grassroots and international builds. Though Speedhunters has since gone quiet and no longer updates regularly, features like ED’s serve as a nostalgic reminder of its golden era, when niche builds from Southeast Asia could sit alongside global heavy-hitters.
But for ED, the journey isn’t over. Next on the list are engine internals like cams, pistons, and ECU upgrades, along with transmission enhancements and a full roll cage. The goal is more power, more precision, and even more presence on the road and track.
ED’s Vios is a reminder that true car culture isn’t about how much you spend—it’s about creativity, passion, and pushing the limits of what’s possible with what you have. Even as platforms like Speedhunters fade, builders like ED keep the scene alive, one custom bolt at a time.

Avoc.R is dedicated to exploring the hidden potential of cars most people overlook, the so-called cheap shitboxes. These are the cars you see every day on the street, the ones that never turn heads, because everyone’s too busy admiring the usual “JDM builds.”
But we see things differently.
Underneath the faded paint and modest specs, these humble machines hold real potential, both in looks and performance. Sure, it might take more effort, creativity, and passion (and sometimes even more budget than expected) to bring them to life, but that’s exactly where their charm lies.
At Avoc.R, we believe that every car has beauty waiting to be revealed:
"there are no ugly cars, only people who don’t know how to build them."
Since releasing a few of our virtual custom builds, more people have started to see what we see: that these forgotten cars have their own kind of magic and possibilities waiting to be uncovered.
This is the spirit of Avoc.R, the art of refining the ordinary.
